Movies I loved as a kid Pt. I

My GirlMy girl

How much I loved this movie. I first saw this movie when I was about the age of Vada. I then wanted to be just like her – I dressed like her, acted like her, I made my German friend sing “I told the witchdoctor that I’m in love with you u-u-u-uh…” with me while riding our bikes.

CasperCasper

I thought Casper was a really nice and sad movie. Especially the end, when the deceased mom comes back as a ghost herself. Casper turning into Devon Sawa and walking down the stairs was my favorite scene 🙂

Homeward BoundHomeward Bound

Two dogs named Chance and Shadow and a cat named Sassy are left behind when the family that owns them goes on vacation. They are not sure what happened and therefore they have to find the family. An incredible journey is what is next.

Now and ThenNow and Then

How much I would have loved it, if I had friends like that to do things like that. Crazy activities, fun, first love, first kiss… and still be friends when you grow up. What a dream. Very adorable movie which made me sing “Sugar….. oh honey honey” every day.

Black Beauty

In this movie I first noticed the music of Danny Elfman. I named my male rabbit Ginger, after Ginger, the female horse. I cried a lot during this movie, I loved it though. I always wanted a horse like Black Beauty.

  1. As a kid?! I’m still going to love these even when I’m not a kid anymore!!

I adore My Girl.. ut it’s so sad 🙁 And Homeward Bound, and Black Beauty. Ahhhh Black Beauty 🙂 I can’t really remember what Casper is about though, and I’ve never seen Now and Then! My childhood movies would be mostly of the animated kind 😀

  2. Oh man, I am so glad you mentioned Casper. That was the start of my multi-year obsession with Devon Sawa, complete with a wall of my bedroom being plastered with posters of his beautiful, beautiful face. Then he got older and kind of odd-looking and I decided I didn’t want someone’s head all over my wall, so all the posters are sitting in a box in a closet.

I’ve never seen Homeward Bound or Black Beauty… I know I’ve seen Now and Then, but I totally can’t remember what it was about.

  3. I remember watching Casper over and over again. Now that you mention it, maybe later when I get home from work (I usually don’t do much on a Monday evening), I’ll probably go watch it. I don’t recall watching the entire movie of My Girl. I remember the bee scene where the boy gets stung and dies? Homeward Bound.. I love watching. I also watched the sequel of it. I don’t think I’ve watched Now and Then or Black Beauty. Maybe I have. I’m not sure. Good choices of movies btw.

  4. I used to watch Homeward Bound I & II all the time, Casper and Black Beauty also. Those movies were always so dramatic with a cheesy ending… I don’t think I’d wanna watch them again these days….

  5. I loved watching My Girl over and over again on my VHS (ancient times, dude!), even if it was sad and touching, when I was young.

I wasn’t born yet when it came out 😛

  6. The only movie I’ve seen of all those is Casper, in fact, it’s the only one I’ve heard of 😛

That’s probably ’cause I wasn’t born yet when you were around 6… not that I’m saying you’re as old as my grandma XD

Anyway, my favorite childhood movies were Disney’s Aladdin and Beauty & the beast, IT, Psycho, The secret garden and The little princess 🙂

  7. Casper and Black Beauty… I loved those movies sooo much! Casper was just a super cute family movie my family and I watched together all the time.

I was obsessed with horses when I was younger and have always wanted a beautiful horse like Black Beauty too! <3

  8. I used to watch Black Beauty over and over again. Casper is a movie that I saw quiet a lot too, I just can’t recall seeing the others, except for maybe Homeward Bound.

A movie (cartoon) I watched a lot is Scruffy, about a mother dog that gets abandoned by her owners when she’s pregnant and when she gives birth to her puppies in an empty house, there’s a fire and she eventually dies so the puppies have to survive themselves. I cried so much when I saw that movie.

The sad thing about it is that the abondenment of animals is not uncommon at all 🙁

  9. I love My Girl but it’s so sad at that one scene, it’d probably still make me cry.

I used to own Casper, and I watched it like everyday. I had a huge crush on Devon Sawa, I even tried writing him a letter lmao. It makes me laugh because I think he’s kinda ug nowadays.

  10. I also loved My Girl. Not a big Casper fan since I am not really a Cristina Ricci fan. Homeward Bound is also a really sweet movie. I’ve seen that one tons of times. I don’t think I’ve seen Now and Then (at least not all of it), and I have never seen Black Beauty (not a horse person). I should post some of my favorite movies as a child. 🙂

  11. awww, i remember these movies!!! I used to love Casper! Every girl waited for an hour for Devon Sawa’s 15 seconds of fame, lol. And My Girl and Homeward Bound were awesome movies.

  12. i remember all those, especially my girl. i was a disney movie kid from the heart though. it was ALL about the little mermaid for me. lol.
