Hello Virus

And hello Website! Haven’t seen you in a long time!

It’s somehow funny, last year, December 19th, we were all sick with the stomach flu. This year, December 16th Q started vomiting, luckily only four times that evening until he finally fell asleep.
The boyfriend didn’t feel too good that night and I didn’t feel too good Saturday, but I went out and did my things and felt better after breakfast and two big cups of coffee.
Sunday however I got a headache, took some medicine and in the evening I didn’t feel good at all and thought ok, that’s it, hello stomach flu. The boyfriend didn’t get it, he only felt bad that one night.
But, instead of getting the stomach flu, I got a laryngitis! It somehow felt different from the regular I have a cold sore throat so I was a bit worried and went to the doctor on Tuesday. The disadvantage of a laryngitis, other than that it sucks, is that it can take up to ten days and seeing it’s a virus you can’t do anything against it, other than to drink lots of tea!
Oh, today is day three, on day six we have a big family dinner, on day seven as well, on day eight we drive to the boyfriend’s family and on day nine we have a big family dinner there.

Oh, I wish the virus wouldn’t always wait so long until it says “Hello, here I am” πŸ™

Fitness Check #5

My body fat & muscle measured Okt 21st 2016 vs. Jan 29th 2016 (and Dec 2nd 2015):

  • body fat: 18,7% = 9,5kg
    (Jan 2016: 19,6% = 9,9 kg (-1,1 kg))
  • right leg fat: 2,7 kg (+0,1 kg)
    (Jan 2016: 2,6 kg (-0,2 kg))
  • right leg muscle: 6,4 kg (the same – I can hardly believe after all those squats)
    (Jan 2016: 6,4 kg (same))
  • left leg fat: 2,7 kg (+0,1 kg)
    (Jan 2016: 2,6 kg (-0,2 kg))
  • left leg muscle: 6,2 kg (same)
    (Jan 2016: 6,2 kg (+0,1 kg))
  • right arm fat: 0,4 kg (same)
    (Jan 2016: 0,4 kg (-0,1 kg))
  • right arm muscle: 1,9 kg (+0,1 kg)
    (Jan 2016: 1,8 kg (same))
  • left arm fat: 0,4 kg (same)
    (Jan 2016: 0,4 kg (-0,1 kg))
  • left arm muscle: 1,8 kg (same)
    (Jan 2016: 1,8 kg (+0,1 kg))
  • carcass fat: 3,3 kg (-0,5 kg)
    (Jan 2016: 3,8 kg (-0,7 kg))
  • carcass muscle: 22,9 kg (+ 0,7 kg)
    (Jan 2016: 22,2 kg (+0,2 kg))

My BMI at the moment is 19,8.

So, to sum up, I started with Power Endurance (Foundation) for a few weeks, then went on to Hypertrophy and switched between those two. In September 2016 I made 5-6 weeks of maximum strength (Firming) and now I’m back to Hypertrophy.

In ten months of going to the gym 2-3 times a week following changes happened:

  • my weight always stayed pretty much the same (it’s not my goal to lose, luckily)
  • I went from 21,4 % body fat to 18,7 %
  • I went from 1210 kcal a day to 1230 kcal a day
  • I went from 40,2 kg muscle to 41,3 kg muscle
  • I hardly gained muscle in my arms and legs
  • I gained almost 1kg of muscle in my back and abs
  • I lost 1,2 kg of fat in my back and abs

In those ten months I didn’t control my eating habits (too much sweets) and hardly made endurance. All in all I’m happy with the results, I didn’t try so hard (meaning, I go to the gym twice a week and not three times, I eat a lot, I hardly do endurance). I can’t imagine I didn’t gain muscles in my legs, not sure what to think about that result. And also my arms after all those biceps curls etc. I plan on going jogging more during my next Foundation phase.

What’s your main goal you’re doing sports?

Men

As I was walking to the train station today it was raining cats and dogs. And I wondered, why do so many men don’t use an umbrella. Why is using an umbrella girly? And then I was thinking about other things men think are girly and really really wondered why men think so:

  • Using the abductor machine
  • Using the adductor machine
  • Stretching
  • wearing pastel colors – Women wear “manly” colors

Anything else?

Fun times with kids

Q is walking for a few days now and at day-care today he walked a lot, too.
When Papa picked up Q from the day-care he put him in the stroller.
L., who just got picked up from his mommy walked passed Q, pointed to him and said “Quinny has feet now”. πŸ˜€

Hello August, almost September

Hello summer, well, rainy summer.
My baby boy is 16 months old already, amazing. Will be 17 in just a few days.

The end of May we spent a long weekend in Austria. The weather was great and we could do a lot of things outside, like go to a couple of lakes and visit the deer park. We went out for dinner in the evening and baby-Q loved it – he ate everything!

In June we went to a wedding which pretty much took place one whole weekend. Lots of good food but also pretty exhausting. We were all quite tired on Sunday, Q from all the playing with his Oma and Opa and we from all the “partying”.

June 30th was the last day I breastfed. I wanted to feed Q during the night but when he saw/smelled my boobie he just screamed. Three times that night. I tried once more the next night, the same scenario, so… that was it. 15 months of breastfeeding. I would have done it longer but I’m also happy he decided it’s time to end it. The nights got a lot better!

Life is busy with work and a little toddler, I try to go to the gym twice a week and go jogging every now and again as well. At the moment baby-Q has vacation, the child-care is closed for three weeks so my parents and my parents-in-law take care of him so that we can work. Quinn enjoys it lots getting spoiled and all.

Not so good at this

I thought that I’ll blog lots more after having a kid, but I guess not. We’re having a bit of a difficult phase at the moment. Luckily it’s a very normal thing with kids at around 13 months but it’s so frustrating.
Q is very very very very clingy, if I put him down and get up he cries. If I leave the room he cries. If I get up in the morning he cries. So, to sum it up, he cries all day long unless I’m sitting right next to him. The one, two hours he’s napping at noon time are so precious but go by way to fast.
I hope this phase is over soon, it’s nerve wrecking for sure. Pooh!

One year old already

Our little prince turned one on April 1st!

I’ve been a mom for a year, we’ve been a family for a year.
I haven’t slept through the night for one year, I’m still breastfeeding after one year, I’ve had such an amazing year with such an amazing baby boy.

1 year old

Baby Q’s birthday was on Friday, he went to child-care from 8am to 2pm. I made a cake for all the kiddies and Q even got a cute little crown, the one on the photo. On Friday afternoon we had to get some things ready for his party on Saturday.
birthday_cakebirthday_food Honestly, before I was a mom and even half a year ago I thought throwing a birthday party for a baby who turns one is plain ridiculous. Here I am – throwing a birthday party for a baby who turns one – my baby πŸ™‚ I was just in the mood on inviting friends, baking cakes, ordering food and just have a nice day.
We had a really nice day, the weather was good, not too warm but warm enough to sit outside. We had cake, pretzels and Semmeln, potato- and noodle salad and LeberkΓ€se. It really was a nice day and we were all very tired in the evening. I brought Q to bed at around 20:00.

Ah my little baby boy, he’s such a cutie, I can’t wait until he starts walking and talking and making a lot of cute (and not so cute) things πŸ™‚

We all have a cold

It’s been a while…

It all hit us hard here, Baby-Q, his papa and I were home sick.

And let me tell you, having a cold and taking care of an active yet also sick child is mega-exhausting. I still breastfeed during the night (exhausting as well) and am not allowed to take anything! I had such a headache two days and was dreaming of pain medicine.

Q was super whiney and was hanging on his mommy, he’s getting better each day but it was quite exhausting just to watch him not getting into any trouble.

We are all better now, I just had a typical cold for a few days, Baby-Q had a fever, cold, coughing, running nose for about nine days. We had to postpone the familiarization at the child care for one week later so we are starting that tomorrow (and hoping he won’t get the next cold). Papa-Q has been hit the worse, he had a cold for almost three weeks. Poor guy, but he’s better now too.

So, stay healthy all!

Baby Buggy Jogging

In my opinion, one of the sport activities where you see the success very fast, is jogging. I don’t mean “body-success”, but efficiency.

The weather here has been quite nice, no rain or snow, the temperature over 0Β°C in the mornings, so I decided to start my season of jogging again. The only difference to my last years of jogging is that I’m jogging with a baby in a stroller now πŸ™‚
I’m happy we decided to buy a jogging stroller and I’m happy I can do sports with my baby boy. I started exactly one week ago and went jogging on Tuesday and Saturday, 4km. And again today, Tuesday, 5km.

It’s amazing that I ran 4 km last week in 37:26 minutes and today I ran 5 km in 35:29 minutes. 2 minutes faster and one kilometer more! Kilometer 4 and 5 are running up a hill, 37 meter difference.

5 km run

I was very happy with my results today (plus my baby boy fell asleep pretty early) and it was hard for me to believe that I could have kept running and even so much faster that last week.

So, keep on running!
